Waiting in line in Central Square!

What is up with the long lines to get into bars in Central Square?

Cruising the strip (Mass Ave: from The Cantab Lounge to The Middle East) this weekend, I noticed ridiculously long lines (for Cambridge) to get into many of the bars.

For a second I thought I was on the Lower East Side...Don't get me wrong I love Central Square, but it seems a bit outrageous to wait in line for 20+ minutes in the freezing cold, to then pay a cover (or worse - be told the bar is "at capacity"), to have a few drinks and dance a little.

Additionally, if I'm waiting in line (like I'm in Manhattan) then I better have a good couple of hours left to actually BE at the bar before the damn place closes. I mean really, no self-respecting NAUD (North American Urban Dweller) should wait in line for more than 5 minutes AND pay cover, just to be somewhere for last call.

If I seem a bit disgruntled it is only because I'm still having trouble digesting the slice of pizza I got at HiFi while waiting for Phoenix Landing to not be "at capacity".
